AGRÍCOLA LOS PEUMOS S.A.
Sebastián Divin Larraín, Agricultural Manager at Los Peumos S.A., oversees two farms located between the Maule and Ñuble regions. They cultivate Chandler Walnuts and European Hazelnuts, with the hazelnut varieties being 60% Tonda di Giffoni and 40% Yamhill. The trees were planted in 2016 and 2019, and they use a double-line drip irrigation system with 0.072 inches of precipitation. The farms are equipped with DropControl for irrigation control, humidity sensors, climate monitoring, and well control.

DropControl irrigation control

Today, I couldn't imagine managing a major agricultural project without a system like DropControl. Its value goes beyond just saving water and energy; it's about the overall management and operational control of our orchards.
As an administrator, I find numbers and control points to be extremely important. To me, managing irrigation and fertilization represents 70% of the success of a fruit orchard project.
Today, I can tell you exactly how much water we use in each irrigation sector. I also have confidence that our irrigations were executed according to the schedule and that the fertilizer was injected into the correct sector. One of the key benefits of DropControl is how it helps us manage our deep wells. The telemetry platform gives us real-time access to power consumption data, showing us exactly how many kilowatt-hours of energy we are using to extract each gallon of water. This allows us to know the precise energy cost of every single extraction.

We monitor the water flow and energy consumption for each well. We have real-time data on the instantaneous flow rate of each well, as well as a full history of its performance.

Until last season, we worked exclusively with liquid fertilizers. Our management plan for each orchard incorporated an average of three different blends for three distinct growth stages.
100% of our fields are managed remotely. We have the complete DropControl package, which allows us to control and monitor our wells, as well as the climate and soil moisture. We also have control over irrigation and fertigation, meaning we can remotely program and activate our irrigation equipment and fertilizer injections.

In a field without this technology, producers can only estimate their fertilizer use for the season based on invoices. All they can say is, "we spent 500,000 pesos per hectare." Today, I couldn't imagine managing a major agricultural project without the support of a system like DropControl. Its value goes beyond just saving water and energy; it's about the overall management and operational control of our orchards
