AGRÍCOLA HERMETON
Agustín Baranzini, General Manager of Agrícola Hermeton located in Costa de Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The farm has 100 hectares of pecan trees with Western, Wichita, and Badur varieties, planted in 2008. They use drip irrigation with 4 lines of 0.79 mm precipitation, with automated irrigation, pressure switch monitoring, and climate and soil monitoring through the DropControl system, along with SmartDrop's consultancy for data interpretation.

Irrigation, climate, and soil automation

Since we started implementing monitoring and automation equipment, the greatest benefit for me has been water savings, which in turn leads to savings on electricity. Water is very scarce and is sourced from deep wells in this area, with an average depth of 150 meters.
I find that the DropControl system is easy to use; it's a very user-friendly platform.
From a production perspective, thanks to DropControl and proper irrigation management, we have achieved larger fruit size and better fruit fill, resulting in increased production.

I would never go back to manual irrigation. With the DropControl platform, I can see everything happening in my field in real-time. I can measure, spot errors, and make timely decisions. In contrast, with manual irrigation, actions are only taken when the tree shows deficiencies or problems, which often comes with a high cost.
The most important benefit for me is the water savings and real-time monitoring of the irrigation system, which allows me to ensure everything is in optimal condition, resulting in larger fruit size.
