Bruno Margozzini Garibaldi, General Manager of Grupo Margozzini, Agrícola Puente Negro, is located in San Fernando, O'Higgins region. It has 120 hectares planted with various fruit trees, of which 40 hectares are cherries, with varieties such as Lapins, Bing, Sweet Heart, Regina, Kordia, and Rainier. The planting years are 2010 and 2018, with drip irrigation using a double line of 2 mm precipitation, irrigation control by DropControl, moisture sensors, and climate monitoring.

The DropControl telemetry system is crucial today due to the difficulty of managing the complex production system we have developed over the years.
Thanks to the platform, we can observe information related to soil moisture, crop evapotranspiration, irrigation, and rainfall contributions, among other things, all on one screen.
We are now saving around 15% on water (and energy). If we used 12,000 m³/ha of water for a crop before, with the DropControl system, we are now using 10,000 m³/ha. This has helped us significantly rationalize the water we have, which is becoming increasingly scarce. This difference in the volume of water used occurs even though irrigation starts earlier in the season and with the soil drier than usual in these drought years.
Irrigation is one of the most important, if not the most important, variables in managing any fruit species. Moreover, given the distribution of properties I must manage, spread across seven properties, controlling this complex production system is challenging. It is even more challenging to have real-time information and, above all, to have certainty and reliability in the information and in what is actually being done in each field. Like most producers, we previously had a technified irrigation system, with an agricultural operator in charge of the irrigation shed. The administrator would provide guidance on when and how much to irrigate. This was a system in which we had no way to verify that the programmed tasks were actually carried out or if they were done according to the schedule and without issues.
As a result of more informed and timely decisions, we have observed improvements in productivity, as well as benefits in fruit quality and condition.
With the WiseConn system, we monitor operations in real-time, and everything is also recorded, creating a historical database. I, the agricultural manager, or the field administrators can access the platform from anywhere, whether from a mobile phone or PC, and verify that the operation is proceeding as planned. Additionally, since it is an automated system, we can receive all types of alerts, which we program into the system.
