Campo San Antonio, part of the BAFAR Group, located in Chihuahua, Mexico, has 175 hectares dedicated to the cultivation of Pecan Nut of the Western and Wichita varieties. Integrating the DropControl system arose from the need to obtain total control over the switching on and off of valves and pumps, optimizing staff time and avoiding operational incidents from tasks not executed correctly.

The implementation helped us see where our management errors were and thus solve and improve as an orchard.
Previously, management was based only on theoretical Kc and evapotranspiration data, causing insufficient irrigation and affecting tree development. By integrating moisture sensors, it was identified that irrigation was the main cause of the lack of uniformity in the different sectors. This corrected the irrigation plan and delivered to each plant the exact resource it requires, uniformizing the orchard and improving agronomic yield.
Thanks to the savings obtained in electric energy and the reduction of staff overtime, BAFAR Group has validated the efficiency of the platform for large-scale operations. Currently, the company plans to increase the automated surface area by an additional 150 hectares, with the long-term goal of completing the total 924 hectares that make up the property.
By analyzing the moisture graphs, we detected that with drip irrigation and micro-sprinkling we reached a depth of 90 cm, while with sprinkling we only reached 30 or 40 cm using the same amount of energy; thanks to this visibility, we decided to eliminate sprinkling from our orchard as it is not an efficient option for our area.
